Eating Too Many Fries May Increase Type 2 Diabetes Risk – Study

A recent international study has revealed that consuming French fries three or more times a week can significantly increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.

Researchers found that people who ate fries at least three times a week were 20% more likely to develop the disease. In contrast, eating boiled, baked, or mashed potatoes was not linked to any such risk.

According to Dr. Faye Riley from Diabetes UK, the findings suggest that the relationship between potatoes and type 2 diabetes is more complex than it may appear.

The study analyzed data from 205,000 U.S. medical workers over a period of nearly four decades, tracking their dietary habits through regular surveys. During the follow-up, 22,000 cases of type 2 diabetes were reported.

Key Takeaways:

  • Eating fries 3+ times weekly → 20% higher risk.

  • Boiled or baked potatoes → No increased risk.

  • Study followed 205,000 participants for 40 years.

  • 22,000 diabetes cases reported during the study.
