Topless man braves cold to run fastest barefoot ice half marathon in snowy mountains

A man who braved freezing temperatures wearing nothing but shorts has broken the record for fastest half marathon, barefoot, on ice/snow.

Josef Salek (Czech Republic also known as Czechia) set the record, unbroken for 16 long years, with an incredible time of 1:50:42.

The disk was previously held by Wim 'The Iceman' Hof with a time of 2h 16m 34s in 2007.

This is Josef's second Guinness World Records title after reaching the Longest time spent in abdominal plank position (male) last year with a staggering time of 9:38:47.

Therapist, speaker and personal development coach Josef, better known as Joska, prides himself on his healthy lifestyle.

His constant interest in physical records aims, in his words, to show that “setting them is not only about having exceptional abilities, but also about having the right mindset”.

With his many years of experience walking on extremely difficult surfaces such as hot coals and broken glass, it was a natural move to barefoot running.

Josef Salek runs his half marathon barefoot on ice/snow

To prepare, he trained by dipping his feet in a tub of ice every day for the 14 days before his official attempt.

The attempt took place on an open circuit in Horská chata Jelení Louky, Pec pod Sněžkou, a valley close to the highest mountain in Czechia.

A professional surveyor measured the half marathon distance of 21.0975 km (13 miles 192.5 yards).

However, the night before, the course was frozen and impossible to drive on. But luckily, with the help of volunteers who raked the ground, he was finally able to continue his attempt.

Now all Josef had to do was run.

Josef zigzagged and changed his running frequency throughout the course to prevent his feet from slipping.

The different altitudes meant that some parts of the course were more difficult to navigate, particularly the uphill parts.

Undeterred and with a smile on his face, he overcame the pain and continued running until he reached the finish line adorned with many of his supporters.

Official referee Pravin Patel was on hand to announce the successful attempt and award him his Guinness World Records certificate.

Josef's message is above all that through faith, determination and a positive mental attitude you can overcome limits and obstacles.

Everything is possible. That's what I'm basing myself on. It is possible to succeed or fail. Before, I doubted success and that's why I failed in many areas of my life. It was only a few years ago that I changed that idea: no matter what I choose to be, I will succeed. I no longer dwell on doubts, but if an obstacle arises, I look for a way to move forward. -Joseph

He added: “Every obstacle allows us to be creative and find ways to overcome it. And this attitude of life can free us from our greatest enemy, which are our doubts, our fears and our inner critic of everything and everyone. In doing so, we take responsibility for our lives and how we feel. »

As for other record titles, he has a few ideas, including increasing his plank record. So watch this space!
